A Community of Compassion & Caring

How parishioners are becoming the passionate presence of Christ for one other and the world we are called to serve.

The Key at Saint Peter's "An Altar of Compassion and Caring"
The Key accepts clothing you no longer use on consignment - half of the proceeds when an item is sold go back to you. Half of the balance is given to community not-for-profit activities and organizations including a Cazenovia High School award fund in support of student volunteerism. In 2004 Saint Peter's purchased a new expanded home for the Key in the Historical Business District of the Cazenovia Village. Over sixty people volunteer their services to The Key. Come and see what you can do!

Inter-religious Council's Refugee Resettlement Program
Newcomers from war-torn areas of the world are rebuilding their lives in the Syracuse area. Saint Peter's volunteers sponsor and work with them on a biannual basis. 1999, a family of two adults and three teenagers from Bosnia. 2001, a family of two adults and two teenagers from Albania. In 2003 we focused on Somalian refugees.

Summer and Winter Art Shows "Time to Celebrate"
Local artists' work is on display annually in our newly renovated parish hall. Each July the Society for New Music offers noonday recitals. In February the vestry cooks and presents a traditional supper of meatloaf and potatoes casserole for the community at the start of Winter Festival weekend. All to everyone's delight!

We Support Over 20 Charitable Organizations
We are the Madison County site for the Oneida Counseling Service, providing area-wide assistance through a board-certified counselor with years of experience in marriage and mental health ministry. Cazenovia Children's House "My School" pre-K program involving over 30 kids uses our Sunday school wing on weekdays. Madison County Family Outreach had an office here until recently, as did EIDOS, an alternative education program for at-risk high school students. Others without direct connection to Saint Peter's meet here on an annual to semi-weekly basis. We make room for people who care about people.

Think Globally
Act Locally

Jesus tells his disciples in Matthew, chapter 25, to minister to the physical and emotional needs of the world including providing clothes to the naked. Our response to this Dominical Ministry is The Key, begun in 1961 in a corner of the parish hall. We now have over 1200 square feet of display space in property on the church campus. The Key has grossed in forty years over $1,150,000. In 2002 the vestry of Saint Peter's voted to buy a building on Albany Street to expand our mission and further engage the culture of our local community.

Jesus also said "Let the children come to me." In the 1950s a parishioner of Saint Peter's ran a Montessori school for kids out of her home. It grew in size and scope to become what is now Cazenovia Children's House, a community daycare center with an executive director, board of trustees and staff, and a brand-new facility in Trush Industrial Park. In 2000, the Cazenovia Children's House found a new home at Saint Peter's for their "My School" pre-K program thereby closing the circle with that earlier parishioner, Inez Huftalen. Happy, healthy and bright children are growing up all around us, thanks to Inez and the visionary founder of the early childhood education movement Maria Montessori and all who share our Lord's vision of world peace beginning with the children.
